On March 16, 1992 the new Brumby Chair Company opened on Marietta's historic Square amid much publicity and hometown pride. With the reopening of a scaled-down Brumby Chair Company and with the third comeback of the Brumby Rocker, the Brumby family for the first time in 50 years was once again making its namesake rocker.

Turnings are still done to the same exacting Brumby specifications, and all hand assembly, hand caning, and finishing are done at the newly-opened showroom and workshop only several blocks from the Kennesaw Avenue plant, which housed the Brumby Chair Company for almost three-quarters of a century.

In our showroom, visitors may view both old and new Brumby rockers in various settings, amid chair factory memorabilia.

Guests are also invited to tour the workshop, where our rockers are still handcrafted to 19th century standards and specifications.

Today's workshop is the heart and soul of the Brumby Chair Company. Here our rockers are expertly crafted the same way Brumby woodworkers did over 100 years ago.

First, the solid red oak components are assembled into rocking chairs.

Then our caners, using the finest cane from the Orient, slowly weave the extra-wide seats in a traditional and handsome herringbone pattern that adds comfort and beauty to our rockers.

Next our rockers are painstakingly sanded and checked.

Arms are then burned with the original Brumby Chair Company seal, and attached to the chair with hand-driven wedges for extra strength.

Stains enhance and showcase the handsome grain for which red oak is noted.

Heavy-duty enamels in white and shutter green add durability for rockers intended for outside use.

Finally, after finishing, the evenly balanced and matched runners are attached to the rocker using solid brass carriage bolts.
